Research Project: Odeuropa honoured with the European Heritage Award / Europa Nostra Award 2025

The EU-funded research project Odeuropa, in which Olfasense contributed its expertise in odour analysis, has been honoured with the European Heritage Award / Europa Nostra Award 2025 in the Research category.

The award ceremony took place on 13 October 2025 in Brussels.

We congratulate Prof. Dr. Inger Leemans, Dr. Cecilia Bembibre and the entire Odeuropa consortium on this outstanding recognition and look forward to further collaboration in preserving the heritage of scent.

The Odeuropa project explores how scents and olfactory experiences shape our cultural heritage, and how they can be preserved and communicated for future generations. By combining historical research, digital humanities, and advanced sensory science, Odeuropa is opening up new perspectives on the role of smell in European culture.

At Olfasense, we are delighted to have played a part in this groundbreaking initiative by supporting the project team with laboratory-based odour measurement and molecular analysis.

What a great task it was, to analyse the extracted smell of the Rover P5B used by Queen Elizabeth II  in our GC-Sniffing laboratory. More background information of this study you find here: https://odeuropa.eu/heritage-smell-preservation-case-study/

Our contribution underlines our mission to act as a bridge between science and practice – in this case helping to make the invisible heritage of smell both measurable and communicable.
